Stichting Run Her Way
Run Her Way is a non profit organization on a mission is to make running more equitable, accessible and safe for women and girls everywhere. We want more women and girls to start and stay running, so they can access the many physical, mental and social benefits of the sport.
Today, the conditions for running aren’t equal. Too many women adapt when, where, how — and if — they run based on how safe, confident and supported they are in public space.
We work with runners, cities, communities and partners to create running environments women and girls can trust. We turn runner experiences into evidence, advocate for policy and public space change, build allyship in communities, and deliver local participation programs that strengthen skills, connection and agency.

Help more women and girls run with confidence in Maastricht.
Run Her Way is looking for volunteers to join a small local team supporting a new 9-month community project in Maastricht launching in September 2026.
Our mission is to make running more equitable, accessible, and safe for women and girls everywhere.
Most running happens almost entirely in public space — streets, parks, trails — outside the structure of a club or gym. That means factors such as lighting, visibility, who else is around, and how familiar a route feels all shape when, where, how often, and whether someone runs at all. Too many women adjust their routes, timing, or plans altogether based on these everyday realities of shared space.
In Maastricht, we're addressing this directly by mapping local running routes with the women who use them, activating those routes through community-led runs, and building allyship across the wider running community — especially as we head into the darker months.
Volunteer Opportunities
Running Group Leaders: Support and guide small community runs, helping participants feel welcome, included and confident.
Community Engagement Lead: Help embed the project within Maastricht by connecting with local running clubs, community groups, student networks, and other potential participants.
Communications & Marketing Lead: Support participant communications, social media engagement, PR and local media outreach.
Content & Storytelling Lead: Create engaging photo, video, website and social media content that brings the project and community stories to life.
Events & Operations Lead: Help organize and deliver community events, including planning, logistics, materials and on-the-day support.
Policy & Stakeholder Lead: Support engagement with local partners and stakeholders, help with policy research, and contribute to turning project insights into practical recommendations.
Data & Mapping Lead: Support surveys, mapping and analysis of local running experiences. Experience with GIS, survey research or data analysis is welcome, but not essential.
You don't need to be an expert. We're looking for people who are reliable, thoughtful, locally engaged, and motivated by our mission: to advance equitable access to public space and help more women and girls experience the transformative benefits of running.
We welcome both Dutch and English-speaking volunteers.
Time commitment varies by role, but most volunteers contribute around 6-8 hours per month between September 2026 and June 2027. Volunteers receive a contract outlining role and responsibilities, appreciation package, including Run Her Way apparel and discounts from selected partners.
We're building the team now. Email maastricht@runherway.org and tell us what interests you.
The project is made possible by Maastricht Vitale Stad and the Elisabeth Strouven Fonds.
